The Col di Lana is not only a scenic highlight but also a place with a turbulent history. During World War I, it was one of the most fiercely contested mountains in the Dolomites. In 1916, the Italian army blew up the summit to destroy an Austrian position. Today, a small church commemorates the fallen. From the Pralongià Mountain Inn, take hiking trail no. 23, which leads you along the bottom of the Settsass south face. At the Sief mountain saddle, switch to path no. 21/a, which leads to the summit of the Col di Lana (2571 m). Along the way, you will pass restored trenches from the First World War.
